Basic terms and notions for academic (credit) mobility

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)

This is a credit system under which learning-hour credits are awarded on the basis of the student workload necessary to complete the learning activities required in order to demonstrate the achievement of specified learning outcomes. These learning outcomes must be in accordance with the Dublin Descriptors, and within the requirements of the relevant National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The NQF, itself, must be compatible with the Qualifications Framework for the European Higher Education Area (QFEHEA).

Learning Agreement

This is a document that incorporates a registered student’s program of study and specifies the terms and conditions under which the university agrees to deliver the learning units identified.

Mobility

This provides students with opportunities to study abroad for part of their program of study. This broadens their horizons, both educationally and culturally.

Student Exchange Programs

Under these programs, students study usually for one or two semester abroad at a partner (host) university, and transfer the learning units they have satisfactorily completed back to their home university, so that the exchange counts as a regular semester and part of their program of study. Typically, students pay tuition at their home university.
